ABRSM Music Medals

 

In 2008 ABRSM published its first formal assessment scheme for electronic keyboard players as part of its Music Medals programme.

 

The project was led by ABRSM Syllabus Principal Nigel Scaiffe. Andrew Eales, Nancy Litten and John Maul (of Roland UK) worked as a team of consultants to help devise the scheme and compile the published support materials, which comprise five books of keybaord ensemble music, an book of Options Tests, and the sylabus itself.

 

As well as contributing to the project from its inception through to completion, Andrew composed and arranged several of the ensemble pieces published in the five Keyboards Together books that support Music Medals.

One of the most influencial music education publications of recent years, this book is "an essential resource for instrumental and singing teachers who teach pupils in groups".

 

Andrew Eales was one of a select group of expert music teachers who contributed to this publication.

A Common Approach

 

published by Faber Music (2002)

 

 

Produced in association with the Federation of Music Services, the National Association of Music Educators, and the Royal College of Music.

 

A Common Approach is essentially the "National Curriculum" for instrumental teachers, adopted by Music Services and schools nationally in the UK. It is also used as a training manual for instrumental teachers worldwide.

 

Andrew Eales was a member of the Steering Group for this publication. He contributed to the Piano Scheme of Work and oversaw the writing of the Electronic Keyboard Scheme of Work.
